自身が持つ東日本大震災の経験において、圧倒的な自然の力による崩壊と、その後の急速な復興がもたらす風景の激変を目の当たりにする。この経験から、風景の変貌を単なる破壊や再生としてではなく、絶えず変化し続ける地表の出来事として捉えるに至る。 世界に向けて自らの身体を差し出し、土地や物質そして場所が持つ記憶、それらと直接的に衝突する中で「どうにか出来る事/どうにも出来ない事」の間を制作によって行き来しながら、変容し続ける現実を掴み取ろうとしている。

Shuji Inoue
Having experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake firsthand, Shuji Inoue witnessed both the overwhelming force of nature and the rapid reconstruction that dramatically transformed the landscape in its aftermath. This experience led him to understand the changing landscape not simply as a process of destruction and recovery, but as an ongoing event unfolding across the Earth’s surface.
Through his practice, Inoue places his own body in direct relation to the world, engaging with the memories embedded in land, materials, and specific sites. By navigating the space between what can be changed and what inevitably resists change, he seeks to grasp a reality that is constantly in the midst of transformation.
