The hourglass contains salt collected from the sea in Ishinomaki City. The salt is clogged and cannot keep time. Therefore, water is dripped drop by drop onto the salt. The salt dissolves in the water and flows downward. At that moment, it functions as an hourglass, and the salt water flowing from the upper side to the lower side indicates the passage of time.

However, when the drop of water falls and the salt dissolves, the salt, which is an individual, tries to return to its original sea state, which is liquid.

砂時計の中には石巻市の海から採取した塩が入っている。採取した塩の粒子は一定の大きさではない。 その為、詰まってしまい砂時計として時を刻む事はない。 そこで水を塩の上から一滴ずつ落としていく。 水によって塩は溶け、 下層部へと流れ出す。その時、 初めて砂時計としての機能を果たし、 上部から下部へ流れ出す塩水は時の流れを示す。 しかし水滴が落ち、 塩が溶ける事によって個体である塩は液体である元の海の姿へ戻ろうとする。
